Description
Why provide another description of the Navajo verb when so many authoritative studies already exist? The answer lies in the sheer complexity of those works: while monumental, they are often barely accessible to the general reader. This work stems from the desire to create something more informative. Drawing upon the tireless work of Prof. Robert Young—to whom I owe my deepest respect and gratitude—I have sought to make the architecture of this beautiful language accessible to a wider audience. This essay is not intended to replace the technical masterpieces of scholars such as Young, Kari, Faltz, or Hardy, which remain essential references for a more detailed study; rather, it could serve just as a gateway for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the language just through those mentioned masterpieces. As with my previous works on Cheyenne and Lakota, this modest contribution is a tribute to the Navajo language and people. It is my sincere hope that their language and culture will not only endure, but flourish for generations to come.
