ABOUT THE BOOK
What lies beyond belief, worship, and knowledge of Allah? What does it mean to actually journey toward Him?
Risālah Liqā’ Allāh is a profound guide to one of the highest themes in Islamic spirituality: the human journey toward liqā’ Allāh —the encounter with Allah.
Written by ‘Allāmah Ḥasan Muṣṭafawī, this treatise does not present spirituality as vague sentiment or private emotion. It lays out a disciplined path of sayr wa sulūk —mystical wayfaring—grounded in the Qur’an, traditions, supplications, ethical refinement, worship, and the purification of the soul.
At the center of the book are five stages of spiritual wayfaring :
1. Search for Truth and Faith
The journey begins with awakening: recognizing Allah as the Origin, understanding prophethood and Resurrection, and establishing genuine faith beyond mere imitation.
2. Repentance and Return to Allah
Knowledge must become action. The wayfarer turns away from what obstructs the journey, embraces obedience, avoids what Allah has forbidden, and learns the deeper meaning of tawbah .
3. Refinement and Purification of the Soul
The struggle moves inward. Envy, greed, anger, arrogance, ostentation, attachment to the world, and other destructive qualities must be confronted and replaced by spiritual virtues. Muṣṭafawī discusses tazkiyah , takhliyyah , taḥliyah , remembrance, prayer, patience, tawassul , sincerity, and disciplined self-examination.
4. Extinguishing the Ego and Attaining Fanā’
The deepest veil is the self itself. The wayfarer confronts anāniyyah —the persistent “I”—and advances toward fanā’ , trust in Allah ( tawakkul ), entrusting affairs to Him ( tafwīḍ ), contentment with His decree ( riḍā’ ), and surrender ( taslīm ).
5. Return to Responsibility and Service
Spiritual wayfaring does not end in isolation. The mature wayfarer returns to duty, service, guidance, and responsibility in society.
Throughout the book, Muṣṭafawī asks demanding questions: What prevents the heart from drawing nearer to Allah? How does worldly attachment reshape the soul? Why is purification necessary before deeper spiritual perception? How does worship move from outward practice to inward transformation? And what does it mean to remove the veil of the self?
The concluding section brings together Qur’anic verses, traditions, and supplications on liqā’ Allāh , Divine proximity ( qurb ), vision ( ru’yah and naẓar ), intimacy ( uns ), and union ( waṣl ), giving readers a concentrated sourcebook for reflection and study.
For readers of Islamic spirituality, ethics, Qur’anic studies, philosophy, ‘irfān , and spiritual self-purification, Risālah Liqā’ Allāh offers a serious map of the journey from awakening, repentance, and purification toward surrender, annihilation of the ego, and nearness to Allah.
This is not simply a book about the spiritual path.
It is a book about walking it.
