Description
Does every practice session end with both of you frustrated?
This workbook gives both of you something practical to do when a practice session stalls, and a structured way to keep practicing at home without turning every session into a test.
TWO PEOPLE ARE RECOVERING FROM THIS STROKE
The Two-Person Aphasia Workbook for Adults was designed for the person practicing and the person helping. The exercises give the survivor something concrete to work through while giving the caregiver a clear, manageable way to participate.
INSIDE THIS WORKBOOK
168 graded exercises. 56 activities written at three levels, so practice can be adjusted for easier or more challenging days. The 30-Second Reset. A simple three-step routine for the moment a practice session stalls, giving both people a practical next step. Real variety. Naming from pictures, matching, word searches, odd-one-out activities, everyday reading, and real-world tasks. Large print. High-contrast pages, one task per page, and a consistent layout designed to make the exercises easier to follow. Adult material. Addresses, receipts, calendars, shopping lists, family names, conversations, and working-life situations. No childish cartoons or coloring activities. Caregiver rubrics. Practice guidance is collected separately so the person completing an exercise can work without seeing the answer immediately. Spoken practice. Words, phrases, questions, and situations that can be practiced aloud, not only written exercises. A plateau page. Guidance for periods when progress feels slow, including what to consider changing and why a temporary plateau does not necessarily mean practice should stop.
PRINTABLE COMPANION KIT
Additional printable materials are provided through the instructions inside the book, including:
The 30-Second Reset Card. A compact reference card with the three steps of the reset routine. The Visitor Card. Simple guidance for visitors, family members, and others who want to communicate more effectively with someone who has aphasia. Twenty printable refill pages. Additional copies of selected exercises for continued practice. Twenty-four conversation cards. Short prompts designed to support conversation after completing an exercise.
THIS WORKBOOK IS FOR YOU IF
Your husband, wife, mother, father, partner, or another loved one has had a stroke and is working to communicate more effectively at home.
This workbook gives you a shared activity: one person practices, the other participates, and both of you have a clearer structure for the session.
WHO THIS BOOK WILL NOT HELP
If your loved one cannot hold a pen at all, or cannot yet follow a short written instruction, these exercises may not be appropriate at this stage.
The workbook is designed for mild to moderate aphasia and is intended for home practice. It is not a replacement for professional speech-language therapy.
Recovery can be slow and uneven. What you can control is the next small practice session, and making those minutes useful, manageable, and respectful for both people.
