Subaru WRX Trivia & Fun Facts: What You Probably Didn't Know About the Rally Car Subaru Sold to the Public (Trivia & Fun Facts: Cars & Trucks)

Most performance cars are road cars that were later taken racing. The Impreza is the other way round.

Subaru needed a car to win the World Rally Championship, built one, and then sold the public however many copies the rule book demanded. That is why a family saloon from a small Japanese manufacturer left the factory with a bonnet scoop, a mechanical centre differential and a boxer engine with forged internals — none of which a family needs, and all of which a rally car does.

Ninety verified multiple-choice questions across ten themed parts cover the whole story: the four-wheel-drive estate built because an electricity company needed to reach its substations in deep snow; Prodrive running a Japanese manufacturer's works team out of Banbury; three consecutive manufacturers' titles; the 424 examples of the 22B; and the ten years America spent reading about the car in magazines and driving it in games before a dealer could sell one.
