The Weight of Silence : K-9 Search & Rescue Mysteries, Book 13

The fraud has been exposed. The testimony has been given. The man who ordered four veterans killed to protect his empire has been named. Now the world needs to believe it.

Carl Garner built Stillwater Veterans Retreat as a legitimate business with a criminal heart: charging insurance companies for care that was never delivered, and silencing the veterans who discovered the truth. Danny Reeves. Lori Carrico. Warren Holt. Each one sent into the backcountry on a solo assignment and never brought back. Each one buried by a man named Boyd, on orders from a man named Garner, in locations Gemma and Shelby are only now beginning to map.

Boyd is in custody and talking. Garner has disappeared into the wilderness he spent twelve years learning. The FBI is looking. The Marshals are looking. Six states are looking. And Garner is waiting for the attention to fade, with the patience of a man who has always believed that most people stop looking if you give them enough time.

Atticus is nine months old and learning to crawl. Rosa sends soup. Marco tracks Garner’s network through county records and financial filings. And Shelby Tate, who came to Elk Creek looking for her sister, is finally close enough to the truth that she can feel it, but not close enough to stop the cold from settling into the places where hope used to be.

Lori is still in the ground. Spring is coming. The ground will start to give up what it has been holding.

Perfect for fans of Nevada Barr, Dana Stabenow, and C.J. Box. The Weight of Silence is the series’ most complex and gripping thriller.
