Description
After Germany's surrender on May 7, 1945, the Allies immediately sought to extract punitive damages from the devastated German people. Rampant rape, looting, and summary executions were commonplace. Most accounts of these atrocities have been ignored and never published. During the Nuremberg Trials (Nov. 20, 1945 - Oct. 1, 1946), the Allies pushed to have the German military leadership that was still alive personally responsible for all the war guilt they could shoehorn in. The final verdict? All the Nuremberg prisoners were convicted of conspiracy, crimes against peace, false imprisonment, ... and sentenced to death by hanging. During the trial, the defense for Hermann Göring gathered affidavits of German POWs in Camp 91 Darmstadt that were still being held captive in Germany. These were eyewitness accounts of Allied atrocities committed against German soldiers and citizens during and after the war. It was intended to serve as Göring's closing speech at his trial. All copies of these reports provided to the Allies were burned and never brought to trial, except for two that were smuggled out by escaping German POWs and eventually brought to Argentina. What follows is a small sample of eyewitness accounts from a single POW camp only. They paint a picture of a million horrors committed on a one-on-one basis against a vanquished people by The Greatest Generation. Aginter Press is proud to offer Alliierte Kriegsverbrechen und Verbrechengegen die Menschlichkeit for the first time in English as a testament to the honor, bravery, and sacrifice of the German people.
