Description
Our journey starts on an imaginary hill where a man from a thousand years ago contemplates life. Confident in his beliefs, he knows the world was created by God. He knows his flocks of sheep and herds of cattle were put on this Earth by God. He knows his children are a miracle of God. Jump a few years later and science will obliterate those beliefs that once gave humans comfort. Note: it’s no coincidence this book ends on the same imaginary hill where the reader is offered a better way to look at life.
The book’s theme is atheism v. theism, but don’t assume the author, Ian Onimus, prefers one side over the other. Both Christians and atheists will hate his arguments.
The story is filled with conflict: Ian Onimus v. his editor; FRED (a high school student from another universe) v. his professor; Donna’s God v. Mother Nature; Ian Onimus v. Mr. Biologist; Richard Goldschmidt v. hopeful monsters; The gunslinger v. swamp creatures; American paleontologists v. Cambridge biologists. The style is offbeat and hopefully humorous, but the theme is deadly serious and critical to a society that is racing down a steep path heading for annihilation.
The concept: a non-omnipotent god guides biologic evolution during those rare times when the Earth’s protective force field (geomagnetism) collapses. Although the evidence is complex, it’s tempered with humor and occasional outrageous situations.
Towards the end, a surprise: God’s autobiography is mailed to Ian Onimus from Donna, an unknown lady from New York. The autobiography answers virtually every philosophic question imaginable. It starts: “Hi, I’m God, and I have one simple question: What the fuck do you people think you’re doing?”
Our journey ends on that same imaginary hill where the reader, now armed with scientific evidence and proof, will realize this is God’s universe, will realize evolution was guided by God, and will realize living babies truly are a miracle. No less important, the reader will realize humans are needed by God.
