Description
Echo Foxtrot is the third and final book in a trilogy documenting the life of Andrew Cuthbertson, an experienced frontier explorer, who represented one of the world’s largest mining companies. It follows the earlier success of Posting to Mongolia and Mary Kathleen Reflections, which both received international acclaim.
Andrew’s early life experiences working in remote regions of Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Philippines form the core of Echo Foxtrot . The book describes the physical and emotional challenges of exploring for mineral deposits in harsh environments and engaging with Indigenous Peoples living there. It documents the uncertainty of employment in the context of the transformational geopolitical and economic trends affecting the international mining industry through the 1980s and 1990s.
Andrew was intimately involved in the inception of some of the world’s largest copper-gold mining projects. Eventually, he found himself at the epicentre of early relationship building and stakeholder management in challenging jurisdictions in Africa, Asia, PNG, and South America.
This book is dedicated to the geologists, field assistants, and Indigenous guides who were either killed or permanently injured while supporting exploration field operations. Each and every one of them is remembered by those who survived.
