Description
The two small, low-lying islands Antigua and Barbuda belong to the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. They have been shaped more by limestone formations than by volcanic activity and are unwooded except for small remains of dry forest. The avifauna is dominated by seabirds, but there are also some typical Caribbean species living here. Most interesting is probably the largest colony of the Magnificent Frigatebird in the Western Hemisphere, it is located on the smaller island of Barbuda. It suffers from the hurricanes again and again, but its size can reach 100,000. The best time to travel is April and May, when the seabirds breed and August to December, when the Frigatebird colony is usually occupied.
This multilingual (en, fr, es, de, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire birdlife of Antigua and Barbuda in color. As a bonus, links to HD videos of 27 bird species are included. Where available, links to the valuable websites of UNESCO, BirdLife International and the Ramsar Organization are provided, which characterize the country and help to find the best sites for birdwatching.
