Description
In this book, you will learn how to overcome mental and physical challenges as an amputee and how to get back on your feet and live a normal life.
I will take you through my personal journey from my life before my accident, the accident itself, and especially the time after the accident when I, as a 14-year-old, had to face a new reality and adopt into my new life situation.
You will learn to master your mindset and learn to accept your new self and not let other people's thinking define your goals or your new reality. You will learn the importance of having goals to guide you in the right direction and learn how to divide them into smaller obtainable goals that you can act upon every day.
You will learn how I have used meditation for acceptance and for phantom pain removal. And how positive psychology can help you stay motivated throughout your journey. You will be introduced to tools for positive thinking, how to get the positivity started by journaling.
And you will be introduced to how I have succeeded to create fulfillment in the years after my accident by doing great for others with and without disabilities.
About the author
I was born in Denmark in May 1990, and amputated in March 2005 due to a traffic accident. I have been a gymnast most of my life, both before and after the accident. I was the first Gymnast in the world to be a power tumbler with an above-knee prosthesis and went to a school for gymnasts after losing my leg and performed more than 50 shows with the school.
In the years after my amputation, I quickly gained full recovery mentally and physically. I managed to learn how to walk, run, swim, ski, perform gymnastics. I became an athlete almost at the same level as before my amputation within a year. I managed to train with the Paralympic team but decided not to pursue this opportunity further, due to my dream to become a civil engineer.
Since my amputation, I have been a motivational speaker for more than 10.000 students in schools, people with disabilities, I have been talking to individuals or families facing amputation, have participated in training individuals with disabilities to get back on their feet. I have been part of lectures for university students becoming physiotherapists or prosthetists, and have been participating in conferences for makers of prosthetics to walk around showcasing products.
I have managed to keep a positive and healthy lifestyle by focusing on my physical well-being, my health and my weight, as well as learned to accept, and live my life to the fullest with my prosthesis, by learning to master my mindset through meditation, positive psychology, and purposeful goal setting.
I personally believe that every person with or without a disability will gain respect among others, by respecting themselves, and by having the courage to follow their own dreams and aspirations, and not let other people's fears and worries stand in their way. I try to live by these rules every day.
