Description
The Maldives is an island nation off the west coast of the Indian subcontinent with more than 1000 islands. The highest elevation reaches a height of only 2.4 m above sea level, so that the state is threatened in its continued existence by the rising sea level. The climate is tropical and warm, making the archipelago a popular tourist destination. The best travel time are the months January to April. The remarkable bird life is dominated by marine, coastal and migratory birds. In addition, there is a subspecies (maledivicus) of the House Crow that is endemic to the Maldive and Laccadive Islands.
Our multilingual (en, de, fr, es, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of the Maldives in colored pictures. As a bonus, links to HD videos of more than 55 bird species are included. Where available, links to the valuable websites of UNESCO, BirdLife International and the Ramsar Organization are provided, which characterize the country and help to find the best sites for birdwatching.
